We launch a new section on our website! Starting today, every Wednesday we will add 5 new songs about windows to our Spotify playlist. Because windows have served as inspiration for artists of all genres, at Grupo Afandecor we are going to take a musical tour in tribute to all those who have remembered the windows to provide a soundtrack to an entire country..
Through a window you can contemplate the horizon, meet a new love, discover a spectacular landscape... For this reason, singers of all generations have included windows in their songs to open themselves to the world.
Today we start with one of the musical genres with the most roots in many areas of the Spanish geography: the flamenco. This style of dance and music is characteristic of Andalusia, Murcia and Extremadura, although it has already crossed borders. In 2010, it was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. In short, flamenco is an art, its own expression, recognized and admired by everyone.
– The Fountain of Bebo (Diego El Cigala)
This flamenco singer, nephew of flamenco artists, has been releasing albums since he debuted in 1997 with “Undebel”. In 2001 he released the single “The Bebo Fountain" what did he say:
I keep seeing her
at your window
And in my spring,
The sounds of the past.
– I will live (Island Shrimp)
One of the most important figures in the history of flamenco and music in general. He died in 1992 and is considered the best contemporary flamenco singer. His brief career (he died at the age of 41, causing a great social upheaval in Spain) resulted in a discography of 17 titles, several gold records and a multitude of awards. In 1984, together with Tomatito, he launched Viviré:
I'm watching, in the window
Oh, early morning blue
A very sad blue, clean and golden,
Oh, an early morning azyl
A clean, golden, sad blue.
– What I wouldn't give (Rocío Jurado)
La Más Grande achieved international fame as a singer-songwriter between Andalusian copla and flamenco. He also had a space for windows among his extensive musical career. This is one of the artist's most flamenco songs and one that brought her the most success. It was composed by José Luis Perales expressly for her.
What I wouldn't give to start over
To count stars from my window
Dress up as a faralaes and walk around the fair
To feel the kiss of the morning
– He calls me (Ketama)
The Ketama group was formed in the early 80s. Their first influences came from Latin American music, they quickly oriented themselves to what is called new flamenco. In 1985 they published the song Me llama:
Oh he calls me
Calls me
Oh and the sun when it rises
And come through my window
and lies in my bed
– The Threads of Dawn (Niña Pastori)
We finish this weekly compilation focused on flamenco with Niña Pastori. In 2000 he released Cañailla, one of his most famous albums with collaborations from the Carmona brothers, Vicente Amigo and Moraito. The main single from that album also had its little reminder to the windows:
Window
Window of my madness
I spread your shirt
White shirt
